Many different civilizations have existed within Turkey’s present-day border making Turkey a fantastic place to explore what these civilizations left behind in the form of architecture and culture. We will travel from one end of Turkey to the other and photograph many amazing sites that are hundreds and thousands of years old. We will also enjoy the local customs and culture that has evolved in Turkey and will have many chances to photograph the people in their daily routine and their special events.
Turkey Photo Tour & Workshop is specifically designed for people that want to experience this exciting travel destination while improving their travel photography skills. You will start your journey in Istanbul where you will get your first glimpse of the history and culture this country has to offer. You will photograph the Suleymaniye Mosque, and Galata Bridge in the early morning followed by the old neighborhood of Kadirga and the Spice Market. In the evening you can photograph sights along the Bosphorus waterfront. You will be back in Istanbul at the end of the trip so we’ll save other locations until then.
Next you fly to Mardin in the eastern end of Turkey where you will visit an old bazaar with medieval scenes, a 13th century theological school, an ancient graveyard and a Syrian Orthodox Christian Monastery. You will also visit Sanliurfa, the city of prophets where Abraham, Job, Jethro and Moses lived and take pictures of the holy sites and the people there today. Your next stop is Harran, old Canaan, to photograph the oldest mosque in Anatolia as well as the ant hill-like houses here. Then you travel to Adiyaman to see the Ataturk Dam and the Euphrates River.
One of the highlights of the trip, Mount Nemrut, is next. You will hike to the top of the mountain for a sunrise shot of the temple built here in the first century BC. The mountains and local villages will also warrant a few stops.
Your next destination is Cappadocia, an area of rock formations, caves and underground cities carved in volcanic ash. You will photograph these unique sites in both morning and evening light and will even stay in a cave-based hotel. One morning you will ride a hot air balloon over this area and photograph it from the air. This is sure to be an experience that you will never forget.
You continue travelling west by flying to Izmir and driving to Kusadasi on the Aegean Sea. From here you will visit the Roman city of Ephesus, one of the best preserved Roman cities anywhere. You will also stop in Sirince, a quaint mountain village.
You will return to Istanbul for the last few days of the trip where the best has been saved for last. You will visit Hagia Sophia, the Byzantine Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Underground Cistern and the Grand Bazaar. You will take a boat ride up the Bosphorus to photograph the waterfront houses, palaces, forts and mosques. One evening you will attend a whirling dervish performance that is sure to challenge your photography skills. You will have a special farewell dinner on your last evening in Istanbul and fly home the following morning.
