A unique African photo safari with Roger Nelson
Global Travel Photography has selected two of the best locations in Africa to help you capture incredible wildlife photos—Etosha National Park in Namibia and the Chobe River in Botswana. This is among the best African photography tours available, and you’ll be provided with professional photography equipment, super telephoto lenses, and customized vehicles and boats to maximize your chances of superb wildlife photography. You’ll have access to restricted areas to minimize the number of other photographers and you’ll use the services of an African wildlife photography expert to find the best locations and vantage points to photograph the wildlife. You’ll spend your time photographing wildlife instead of looking for wildlife. This is the ultimate in wildlife photography!
The Namibia & Botswana Africa Photo Safari is specifically designed for people that want the best opportunity to photograph African wildlife. The diverse variety and abundance of animals coupled with few tourists in Namibia and Botswana make these countries ideal for serious photographers. The “big five” game animals (lion, African elephant, leopard, rhinoceros, and Cape buffalo) are all here, and they are joined by lots of other plains animals, birds and reptiles. The special equipment used on this safari limits the trip to only 6 photographers who will come home with jaw dropping photos of African wildlife and landscapes. You will receive hands-on help with your photography and your photo processing as well to help you get the best images possible.
You’ll start your journey in Johannesburg, South Africa, where you will receive wildlife photography instruction. The next day you’ll fly to Windhoek, Namibia and travel to Okonjima where you’ll have an opportunity to photograph leopards and wild dogs.
Next you’ll travel to Etosha National Park in the northern part of Namibia where you’ll spend 6 days and nights photographing wildlife from specially equipped safari vehicles with swivel mounted chairs and adjustable posts for Wimberely tripod heads. Professional Nikon cameras with 500 mm and 600 mm lenses will be provided for your use at this location if you do not have your own equipment. Morning and afternoon game drives will take you to restricted water holes that the public is not allowed to visit. You’ll have clear views of all the wildlife that visit these water holes and will have plenty of time to photograph their behavior and interaction with each other. The species typically seen here include Black Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe, Hyena, Impala, Jackal, Kudu, Lion, Oryx, Springbok, White Rhino, Wildebeest and Zebra. Plenty of birds visit the water holes too.
After 6 days in Etosha, you’ll travel back to Windhoek and fly to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe—no trip to this part of Africa is complete without photographing this natural wonder. You’ll spend two nights here and will have several opportunities to photograph the falls from different vantage points. You’ll visit several sites around the falls and an old colonial hotel built in the early 1900s.
Next you’ll travel across the border to Kasane, Botswana in the northeastern part of the country where you’ll stay in comfortable accommodations at a lodge on the river and have the exclusive use of a customized photography boat for 4 days of spectacular photography. Here, the specialized swivel mounted chairs are mounted on a boat with a low beam. The result is a very stable platform for big lenses and the ability to maneuver very close to the riverbank for unbeatable wildlife photography. Professional Nikon cameras with 500 mm and 600 mm lenses are also provided at this location to maximize your photo opportunities
The Chobe River forms a border between Botswana and Namibia and forms a flood plain in some areas. The result is a vast area that wildlife uses for water and food. You’ll find Africa’s largest concentration of elephants here as well as hippos, buffalo, antelope and giraffes. There are lots of crocodiles as well, and their interaction with other wildlife will make great photos. Birds are abundant in the area, and with the huge lenses you’ll have access to you are sure to capture some amazing shots.
On the last day you will fly from Kasane, Botswana back to Johannesburg, South Africa to connect to your international flight home or your next destination.
Through the lens you’ll capture the magic of Botswana and Namibia on an unforgettable African photo safari.
